Reminiscent of the hot springs that beckoned travellers over 100 years ago, the pulsating waterfalls and the mineral pool in the heart of the Banff spa soothe troubled spirits.
1888
The Beginning
William Cornelius Van Horne had a vision to bring the beauty of the Canadian Rocky Mountains to the rest of the world. He commissioned blueprints for an impressive hotel to be built at the convergence of the Bow and Spray River, in what is now known as Canada's first National Park. Construction began in 1887 and the hotel publically opened on June 1, 1888.
1900s The 20th Century
By the start of the twentieth century, the Banff Springs luxury Hotel had developed into one of the top three mountain getaways in North America. Disaster struck in 1926 when the original wooden hotel burnt down. It was rebuilt larger and in its present appearance commencing in 1928.
1940s Adapting to a New Way of Life
Through the 1940s to 60s, the hotel struggled to reclaim the success it had before the war. The hotel went through a significant change, adapting to the economics of the time. Transportation, convenience and availability to monetary funds jointly changed the whole perspective of the hotel.
"Since we can't export the scenery, we'll have to import the tourists."
William Cornelius Van Horne
By the 70s, the hotel reached a pivotal point. For the first time, Banff Springs remained open for the winter season, becoming a year-round resort destination. The 80s then brought expansion and renovation back to the hotel.

We had a great stay, the accommodations are luxurious, the staff is incredibly welcoming and friendly and the views and activities in the town of Banff could not be beat. The spa is exceptional!
Came for work meeting. Staff extremely helpful and very proactive.
Hotel was beautiful but not so much the room. While it was comfortable, there was socks and underwear left in one of the drawers. A robe in our closet looked dirty, make up on the collar? Those things were looked after once we mentioned it to the front desk. But I have to say that was the absolutely smallest bathroom I have ever been in! You had to close the door to stand in front of the vanity and mirror, and there was no space between the toilet and the shower and the sink .

Beautiful location. Great room with extra space. Friendly and helpful staff. Great food options on the Gold floor. Only downside was the food served at an evening event in the Cascade ballroom was not very warm and quality felt not as good as the food in the Gold Lounge
All aspect was all good, very helpful staff and all personnel we meet was very friendly and our stay was well over our expectation.
I hosted a work program at the Fairmont bounce spring and everything was amazing. The staff, the services, the food and environment was top-notch.

When my husband and I tested positive for Covid the night before our wedding last year, we had to cancel our honeymoon plans to Banff. A year later, we were finally able to celebrate, and it was well worth the wait. From the moment we arrived, our service was unmatched. We were generously upgraded to a Fairmont Gold room and the team working the valet, the club lounge, and guest services was always extremely helpful and friendly. We were able to dine at nearly all of the restaurants on property, and our meals were always delicious, and the service was spectacular. Jodie at Castello Italiana, Jess at Waldhaus, Cory at 1888 Chop House, and Daniel at the Vermillion Room were all so pleasant and courteous. Also, the young woman that served us Afternoon Tea was wonderful, I'm sorry that I don't remember her name, but it started with a P. All of the ladies working in the different retail stores were so friendly and gave great recommendations. We had several special conversations with the attendant in the Canadian-Pacific store. Lastly, but certainly not least, the housekeeping team was wonderful. Not only was our room (449) always taken care of, but the hotel itself was spotless in the public spaces, and it always smelled divine. My husband appreciated the special touches having extra coffee pods left in the room for him. I cannot say enough about our stay. Thank you so much for an amazing anniversary/honeymoon getaway!
